The Kids Toddler Bunk Bed

We live in a small 3 bedroom house, and we have 4 kids. So naturally when my wife suggested we buy bunkbeds I had to inform her that: "I will never buy a bunkbed.... But I will definately make one!" Now, I am one of those people who loves going to Lowes. You know, just to hang, kinda like the wife likes the mall. I like Lowes. But I hate having to go to Lowes in the middle of a project! So, I decided to spend some time goofing off on the computer and created a 3D model of my toddler bunkbed. Here is a picture of how it looks as a model. And here is a link to my ebook with the plans and material list.
I thought this was pretty cool. I love drawing things up in 3D. And the best part about this was the material list. I knew exactly how many 2x4's, 4x4's, 2x6's, nuts, bolts etc I needed. And so I made one trip to Lowes. One trip only!! That was awesome. Here is the finished product.

This bunk bed is for Toddlers. The plans are built around the IKEA VYSSA SLUMMER Mattress.
Dimension: 34-1/4" Deep, 63-1/2" Width, 56" tall.
The mattress cost me $50. and it is 63" Long. So pretty much my sons can sleep in this bed till they are 5ft tall.
Why do I love this bed??? Good question!
1. It's size. The rooms I have are small, like 10' by 10'. This bed fits perfect in the kids room. Being a hair over 3ft deep it doesn't take up to much space.
2. It's height.  Who isn't afraid of falling off the top bunk? I was... Heck... I am! The mattress is only 36" off the ground. Thats under 4 feet! So, when your kid falls off, cause you know they will, it shouldn't hurt... to much. And besides. It is under the OSHA regulation 5ft, so fall protection for the kids while they are sleeping isn't needed!
3. It's height! Can I say that twice? Yep! I love it's height because I can easily pick up my kid and stick him on the top bunk, or take him off. And my wife can too... well, maybe with our littler kids.
4. It's so low! The bottom bunk is so low to the ground. So, I can even sit in the bottom bunk with room to spare for my head. And I am 5'11".
5. It seperates! The two beds come apart! Look at the beds close and you will see that the 4x4 isn't a solid peice. So the beds come apart, which makes moving them to a different room a sinch. Or, if you wanted you could make them just 2 beds! \
6. It's as sturdy as a rock! Being so compact and low to the ground, and with those 4x4's it has almost no swaying.

After I made the bunk bed my dad and my brother in law asked if they could have the design, so I spent a while, refining the 3D model, and made an ebook with the material list and directions on how to build the bed!
Here is the link to the book on my etsy page! It's only a $1.50. Which, is way worth only having to make one trip to Lowes. Let me know what you think!

New Computer Armoire / Bookshelf / Fireplace

When we moved into our house, we kinda lived with this boring looking fireplace.
My wife wasn't to fond of the lame computer desk, and the boring ikea shelf, and the tv just hanging there. I do like the santa leg though!!! So, I decided to make use of that time I took off work during Christmas. I informed my wife that I would turn the whole wall into something awesome. So I started with the fireplace.

And before I knew what happened I had bookshelves and cabinets and everything!!! All from scratch! I used mdf board for almost everything, except the trim on the doors and the mantel. The computer is hiding in the top right closet, along with a board that slides out with the keyboard on it. Now, all the wires from the xbox and the wii and the blu-ray player are all hidden. Sometimes I amaze myself!
